    Kelston Deaf Education Centre provides educational pathways and support for deaf and hard of hearing students.
    Two full-time permanent positions have become available at Kelston Deaf Education Centre, Auckland. The successful applicants will be required to interpret for our diverse Deaf staff. You will be required to work as part of the Resource Team. You will be interpreting for general communication, newsletters and resource projects, which will be videoed. This position will involve some travel outside of Auckland and the requirement to work the occasional evening.
    Prerequisites to be successful in this role are:
  • Approved qualifications in New Zealand Sign Language and interpreter training
  • Participating member of the Sign Language Interpreting Association (SLIANZ)
  • Previous experience in NZSL resource development, translations and video editing is desirable.
  • A current driver licence as there is an expectation to travel within Metropolitan Auckland
  • Highly motivated, flexible and capable of managing your own workload
  • Understanding and respect of Deaf culture

Kelston Deaf Education Centre provides educational programmes and services to Deaf and hard of hearing learners throughout the northern half of the North Island and New Zealand. This is a fantastic and rewarding opportunity for a qualified audiologist with NZAS membership to work as part of our dedicated Specialist Services Team at Kelston Deaf Education Centre.

We are looking for an enthusiastic individual who has a keen interest in Deaf learners and applies their high level of knowledge and skills in audiology to work with a caseload of children enrolled in our Centre and its Deaf provisions, including our pre-school.

You will be responsible for conducting hearing evaluations, monitoring hearing aids, selecting and fitting hearing aids, and managing classroom FM systems.

You will be able to draw on your extensive experience as an Audiologist to support learners, families/whanau, and professionals with understanding the impact of deafness on learning, communication, and wellbeing.

You will have strong communication skills including New Zealand Sign Language (NZSL) or demonstrate a commitment to learning NZSL. You will be able to demonstrate a professional and caring manner and are adept at building and maintaining relationships with our learners, families, centre staff and teachers whilst expressing sensitivity to cultural and ethnic diversity. You will have the ability to work independently and manage your time effectively. A current driver’s license is required as there will be a need for travel to our Deaf provisions within Metropolitan Auckland. You will also need a valid permit to both live and work in New Zealand.

This is a fantastic and rewarding opportunity for a qualified Speech-Language Therapist registered with NZSTA to apply for a fixed term 0.8FTTE position within our Specialist Services Team. This position is covered under the Primary Teachers’ Collective Agreement and salary is dependent on experience and level of qualification.

We are looking for an enthusiastic individual who will work as part of our dedicated multi-disciplinary specialist services team working collaboratively with our Core School enrolled learners (Y1-Y15), their families/whanau, centre staff, teachers and paraprofessionals within our Centre. There is an expectation for you to travel to our Deaf provisions based in mainstream schools across metropolitan Auckland.

You will have strong communication skills including New Zealand Sign Language (NZSL) or demonstrate a commitment to learning NZSL. Hours of work:3 days a week 8.00am-3.45pm at a provision centre / 2 days a week 8.45-3pm at Kelston Deaf Education Centre

Kelston Deaf Education Centre operates a bi-lingual pre-school programme catering for the needs of Deaf and hard of hearing/hearing children

We are seeking a candidate who is an excellent Deaf role model to our learners to work during school term times in Tu Kokiri. You will be responsible for supporting Deaf and hard of hearing/hearing learners and work closely with our teachers to provide a safe and practical learning environment. You will be a skilled New Zealand Sign Language user and be responsible for transporting our learners to and from Tu Kokiri located in West Auckland. Strong communication skills are essential. The position will be responsible for picking up our youth in a school van from 8am – 3pm three days a week in a provision centre, and then working two days based at KDEC.

You will have a current New Zealand’s Driver’s License, a natural affinity with young children and be able to build positive professional relationships with their whanau. A valid permit to live and work in NZ is essential.
